Philippines Foreign Ministry has expressed its view that seafarers who have already completed quarantine during their long sea voyage should not be obliged to go for additional quarantine at shore.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin said that, “ Filipino sailors are reaching the shore after a long waiting period on board, but after reaching their home country they are forced to undergo 14 days quarantine period. This additional quarantine is unnecessary for them.”

Last week, nine cruise ships carried thousands of seafarers to Philippines. They are all under quarantine. Also so far around 16,000 seafarers have been repatriated by charted flights to Manila.

Many more Cruise vessels are sailing to Philippines to sign off the Filipino seafarers including two big ships with more than 2400 seafarers.
