Around 100 personnel of a fighter jet squadron were made to leave the USS Gerald R Ford after one of the crew tested positive for COVID-19, the US Navy sources said.

The sailor tested positive for Coronavirus the day before the aircraft carrier departed from Virginia’s Naval Station. The sailor is a member of the strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 213- THE ‘Fighting Black lions’.

The squadron had boarded the USS Gerald Ford to prepare for ongoing carrier qualifications. All the sailors had reportedly been screened before joining the carrier and none of them were showing any symptoms of the virus.

This is the second USS aircraft carrier affected due to the outbreak of the deadly disease. In March, the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt had many sailors tested positive of COVID- 19. Over 1000 crews were tested positive for the disease.
