As unlock 1.0 begins a charted flight carrying 64 Indian seafarers flew to Doha for the sign-on. After hectic demands from the shipping industry, the SpiceJet flight took off from Mumbai to Doha on Sunday.
Crews from Maersk Tankers, Synergy Marine, Mediterranean Shipping Company and two other shipping companies have flown from this charted flight. From Doha, the Indian seafarers have taken onwards flight to Brazil, Europe, Finland and Korea.
Many more charted flights are expected to fly to Doha and Colombo in the coming days. Sri Lankan Government allowed the Indian seafarers to stay in Colombo for the local sign on for five days and seven days to proceed to other countries joining.
Two days earlier, a SpiceJet chartered flight carrying 22 Indian seafarers flew from Chennai to Colombo, and then to South Korea to take over a newly constructed ship.
